Grey the cat

Grey, a cat who suffered from urethral stenosis in early 2014, was given a second chance at life thanks to his devoted owner. I still remember the owner's plea: "Save him by all means." Eleven years ago, in a time when Malaysia didn't not have fluoroscopy, we faced a significant challenge. Yet, with the help of my mentor and a senior colleague, we persevered and successfully placed a urethral stent for him.

The stent gave him two more years of life. When complications eventually arose, we had to give up the stent and perform a prepubic urethrostomy. From that point on, Grey required extensive care and frequent clinic visits. Despite the challenges, his owner reported that Grey had grown to love the clinic.

A decade passed, and Grey was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). As our clinic was planning to relocate, I told him he simply had to live long enough to see our new place. True to his resilient spirit, he rallied and made the journey with us.

He liked to occupy Kristal's bed, always seeking to be the center of attention. Kristal, graciously, always let him have his way.

Grey has been a constant in my life. He was my Facebook profile picture back in 2014; in it, both of us look so young. The last selfie I took with him was just one week ago. We all knew his time was coming soon, a quiet understanding that hung in the air.

Grey should be more than 12 years old now. No one knows his exact age, but what I know for certain is that he has been with me for 11 years and 7 months—a period I will always cherish.

16/10/2025, 2.30pm He took his last breath.

Rest in peace,  Grey 🌈
